High 2 Point State Park is a popular place in the summer with the Lake Marcia swimming area and the monument peak but winter offers a whole other view with the leaves off the trees. High Point Cross Country Ski Center, located within the park, offers a great way to see the park in its snow covered beauty with 5 cross country ski and snow shoe trails. With 1600 feet elevation they have had 90 inches of snow this season (2013/2014) with current base depth of 18-20 inches. Most trails are 4-6 km (2.5 – 3 miles). The trails are worked on in the summer so they hold snow better and then are groomed all winter. The Monument Trail, recommended for snow shoeing, is 8 km (approx 5 miles) and offers the best views of NJ, PA & NY.
Tickets are either full day (9-4pm) or half day (1-4pm) ranging in price from $15 – $22. Equipment rental packages for skiing or snowshoeing range from $15 – $22. Group and private lessons are offered on weekends and holidays. There is a small lodge with a stone fireplace where you can get food and a nice cup of hot chocolate. Operated by Hans and Kim, they have succeeded in providing a great experience. This is a nice alternative to downhill skiing as it is much less expensive, less risk and no crowds.
